Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II (デジタルデビル物語: 女神転生 II) is the second game in a long series of games from Atlus. While the first game was based on a trilogy of science fiction novels by Aya Nishitani (西谷史), the second game was an original story, which allowed the developers to move unhindered by the author’s canon.
The developers listened to feedback about players having difficulty finding their way and moved the overworld to a top-down view similar to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. It introduced status symbols and multiple endings to the series.
After a nuclear apocalypse, two friends are playing a game in a shelter. The beat the first boss and unseal Pazuzu who gives them the Demon Summoning Program. Demons raid that facility and the friends must use the program to save the destroyed world.
