This was a tight week, and not for the usual “day job” reasons. Because I just turned 50, I had to undergo one of the most horrendous “old people” things ever: a colonoscopy. Okay, so it wasn’t so bad. It was a quick procedure and I’m in the clear. But the prep is a nightmare that leads to the most unpleasant of bathroom experiences. One star out of five. Do not recommend for the experience. Five out of five stars for the piece of mind afterwards, though.

When four young women are hired to clean an apartment, the ghost of a suicidal victim from decades before delivers them an evil book filled with drawings of monsters. They read an invocation and one of the monsters, in cartoon form, appears to attack them. It begins killing everyone it meets until the virginal Megan stabs it with a dagger. Everyone is revived the next morning, believing the whole experience to be nightmares. Boobs and a cartoon monster. Everything you might want in a midnight movie!

Women in prison flicks follow a pretty predictable pattern: there are women…in prison… who are often raped by guards or wardens and sometimes (often) end up in lesbian romances. The women fight but ultimately rise up against their captors and escape, destroy the prison, and very often kill their abusers. This follows that formula but takes place in a tropical prison. Women in Cages would be released the same year with the same locations, nearly the same plot, and many of the same actresses.

Have you, like Zack and Miri, thought “I should make a porno?” Well, in 1985 a very low budget movie from Chicago brought five guys together to do just that. Their purpose, like most sex comedies, was to get laid. And thus, Screen Test was created. A group friends get together to make a fake porno since they have no real cash to buy film and really only want to hook up with the ladies. They audition a bunch of awesome social rejects, accidentally cast a mob boss’s daughter, and pretend to make porn. All the while, dodging the mob.

Can You Keep It Up for a Week? (1974)
British sex comedies are sometimes sexually tame, fond of nudity, and usually contain more dry wit than American sex comedies contain jokes from three decades ago. Can You Keep It Up for a Week from 1974 does not disappoint. Arse, baps, and dangly bits pervade this comedy as Gil, a complete Bell-end, who always ends up getting fired from jobs due to accidental sexual shenanigans, is given an ultimatum by his wife. Keep a job for a week or she won’t marry him. And from there, he ends up on the receiving end of any number of crazy sexual situations. Can You Keep It Up for a Week is much more fun, and much funnier, than I expected.
